The Beer, Wine, and Spirits Words That Must Die – VinePair

We don’t often think about the words we use to describe beverages, how those words can deliver far more meaning and impact than we imagine as we aim to converse with one another, or to market our products. Yet so much of the terminology in wine, beer, and spirits is either actively misleading or potentially harmful, which is why on this week’s VinePair podcast Adam and Zach discussed the words and terms that they feel have to die.

From talking about how words like “crushable” and “glou-glou” encourage and normalize alcohol abuse, to the unromantic reality that “minerality” in wine is just a pretty lie, they take aim at the pretensions and misconceptions that run rampant through the writing and conversation around drinking, and explain why these words must die so the rest of us can live.
