VALLEY CITY, Ohio — Coffee In The Valley, a new coffee shop in Medina County, will celebrate its grand opening tomorrow with a $1 coffee deal and giveaways throughout the day.
Owners Stephanie and Sean Miller quietly opened the shop on June 13.
“We’ve had some crazy busy days, and we’ve had some quiet days,” Stephanie said. “It’s been good.”
The shop offers hot, iced and frozen beverages, and sells locally made pastries and donuts. A popular item on Coffee In The Valley’s menu has been its fresh gelato, which the shop buys from another local coffee shop in the area once a week. The gelato is used to make an affogato dessert, which is made out of a scoop of gelato and a shot of espresso.
Coffee In The Valley has a drive-thru, and also plenty of seating options in the shop. It’s located at 6663 Center Road.
Before it became Coffee In The Valley, the space existed as a PNC bank branch. The bank went for sale in early 2017, and the Millers bought it that year, aiming to transform the branch into a local cafe.
Sean, who is an accountant, had previously owned a sandwich shop in the Mayfield Heights Cleveland Clinic. Stephanie was a schoolteacher and she had always dreamed of opening a coffee shop.
The two renovated the space, and preserved the bank’s vault as a small, reservable party room.
“We try to keep it nice and bright and lots of windows,” Stephanie said. “It’s a place where you walk in and say, ‘I want to stay here for a while.’”
The Millers hope to add to the menu at Coffee In The Valley, adding breakfast sandwiches and lunch options like sandwiches and salads. They hope for the shop to become a popular place to hang out.
“I want it to be a place, a community, where friends and family come and want to hang out,” Stephanie said. “I want it to be a place where friends can get together.”
