I popped into the Ribera del Duero tasting yesterday at Glaziers hall, and tried some wines. These were my highlights.
Goyo Garcia Viadero Finca Valdeolmos 2012 Ribera del Duero, Spain
From a dry-farmed 1.5 hectare plot, with red sandstone over limestone soils, 90% Tempranillo and 10% Albillo. 42 months in oak. Open aromatic nose with sweet raspberries and fine spices, as well as sweet red cherries. The palate is fine-grained and beautifully structured with elegant, pure fruit and fine spices. Fine and really complex, with amazing elegance. 95/100
Dominio de Pingus Psi 2014 Ribera del Duero, Spain
The third wine from Pingus, this is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 2% Albillo, farmed organically. The wine spends 18 months in French oak, and is immediately approachable with ripe, lush, smooth blackberry and black cherry fruit. There’s fine grained tannin here and nice depth, with hints of tar and herbs. Sleek and easy, but with a hint of seriousness. 92/100
Bodegas Hermanos Pérez Pascuas Reserva 2012 Ribera del Dueso, Spain
100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with 24 months in a mix of French and American oak. Concentrated, rich and bold with firm but sweet blackberry and black cherry fruit. Nice density and weight with some fine spices and good precision. 93/100
