The Game of Thrones coffee cup dilemma continues: After the show ended last month, fans are still blaming Emilia Clarke and Sophie Turner for the object’s random appearance in a major scene. However, Turner claims that the incident was actually Kit Harington’s fault.
In an interview with Conan O’Brien, Turner jokingly addressed the coffee cup controversy, which is still carrying on even though Game of Thrones ended last month, Fox News reported. Turner cleared the air and said Clarke wasn’t to blame either, since they both had to wear corsets during production.
“I hear this every day of my life, this coffee cup thing. So it’s good to know that the coffee cup got more press than the final season altogether,” Turner told O’Brien on his show.
She continued, “The coffee cup was where Kit’s [Harington’s] chair was. First I blamed it on Emilia [Clarke], but I don’t think Emilia [Clarke] would do that. Kit [Harington] is lazy, and I think he would have done that. It was in front of Kit’s [Harington’s] chair and then obviously he moved, so this picture was taken and it looked like it was in my seat, but I wasn’t there either. It was Kit [Harington]. It was a 100 percent Kit [Harington].”
Turner then went on to explain how she had a complicated costume situation that didn’t really allow her to drink a lot of beverages on set.
“I wear a corset, so I either piss myself or I throw up,” Turner told O’Brien.
The already infamous coffee cup has now been edited out of this week’s #GameofThrones if you watch it back

The rogue coffee cup, which didn’t turn out to be an actual Starbucks cup, showed up in a key Season 8, Episode 4 scene, where Winterfell was celebrating a victory over the Night King’s army. Fans pointed out that the coffee cup was placed next to Daenerys Targaryen in the scene, and following major backlash, HBO apologized and eventually removed the coffee cup from the Game of Thrones episode.
Game of Thrones is officially over, but none of the cast or crew members have come forward and admitted that they left the coffee cup there. So far, the out-of-place object remains a mystery and it doesn’t look like fans will receive any confessions soon.
