Beer Provides More Jobs, Wages, and Economic Impact Than Wine or Spirits – VinePair

A study commissioned by the Beer Institute and the National Beer Wholesalers Association reveals that beer contributes more jobs, wages, and economic impact than wine or spirits.

Beer Serves America, a report detailing how the brewing and beer wholesaling industries impact American communities, shows that beer creates 2.1 million jobs, provides $100 billion in wages and benefits, and contributes more than $328 billion to the U.S. economy.

Beer industry jobs include brewers, beer distributors and truck drivers, hop farmers, scientists, sales professionals, marketing specialists, and more.

Similar surveys conducted in 2017 found the wine industry provides 1.7 million jobs, $76 billion in wages, and $219.9 billion to the U.S. economy. Spirits contribute 1.6 million jobs, $44 billion in wages, and $178 billion in economic activity.

Beer reports often focus on the category losing market share, as consumers move toward wine, spirits, spiked seltzers, and pretty much everything else under the sun that makes you feel good and isn’t made from malt, hops, yeast, and water. But despite negative reports, the beer industry is employing more people, paying more wages, and circulating more cash through the U.S. economy than its boozy competitors.

Beer lovers and industry members, consider this an excuse to celebrate.
