LG Innotek Bringing Facial Recognition Camera to Next iPhone – Report

Currently, LG Innotek provides the rear-facing, dual lens camera modules for the iPhone 7 Plus. The facial recognition modules are expected to be both smaller and front-facing.

To get the job done, LG Innotek will be using a factory dedicated to making Apple products. The facility is worth about $238.5 million.

Back in February, JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall said the “iPhone 8” would feature a 3D laser for facial recognition technology. Hall’s report Hall’s lined up with another analyst note that indicated the new iPhone would completely remove the Home Button and Touch ID sensor and instead provide a “function area.”

The 2017 iPhone lineup is expected to be announced in September with a release date sometime in October or November.

The so-called “iPhone 8” or “iPhone Edition,” is likely to feature 3GB of RAM, water resistance improved to IP68, wireless charging, and 64GB and 256GB of storage.
