In a recent blog post, Facebook announced that the beta ad program is now available to advertisers worldwide.
Ads will start appearing in the home tab starting later this month for a “small percentage of people.” That will be gradually expanded over the coming months.
There will be three possible ways for businesses to advertise. With the Messenger home tab ads, interested users will be taken directly to a specified site.
A Sponsored Message will allow advertisers to re-engaged with users who have previously started conversations. Finally, Click to Messenger ads will drive users to converse with the company after viewing the content.
Messenger is currently used by 1.2 billion worldwide on a monthly basis. Facebook recently announced that it has 2 billion monthly users.
